University Health Care Burn Center

Severe burn injury is everyone's worst nightmare. Unfortunately, for patients at the University Health Care Burn Center, it is a reality. Our center admits an average of 400 patients annually, half of those are children.

The Burn Center receives patients with severe thermal, chemical, electrical and child abuse injuries from a five-state referral area throughout the Intermountain West. Staffs at the Burn Center provide a full range of services including intensive care, burn surgery, burn therapy, and outpatient treatment. Still, burn survivors need more than just medical care. They also require support in dealing with their permanent disfigurement and scarring, especially adolescents.

Due to our survivor’s needs for social and emotional healing, the staff at the Burn Center wanted to help previously burned adolescents beyond their daily medical care. In 1993, Burn Camp was organized; a six-day river rafting and camping trip that has been an overwhelming success for the past 14 years. As we embark on our 15th year we are holding our 1st annual benefit fundraiser on Friday, May 4th 2007. Included in our event will be dinner/dancing and a silent auction. We anticipate that approximately 250 guests will attend from around the Intermountain West, many of them nurses, doctors, parents of burn survivors, and firefighters.

The Burn Center and the Salt Lake Valley Firefighters Foundation are asking for your assistance in making this event a great success. The funds raised at this event will ensure that young adolescents are able to have the opportunity to become friends with others who have been through similar experiences, while at the same time developing self-esteem, coping skills, and a feeling of achievement.

At the University Health Care Burn Center, we are committed to providing this opportunity for our patients. The rewards of your tax-deductible contribution will be satisfying to you as well as to the burn survivors. We appreciate your support, and thank you for your consideration. Please contact Brad Wiggins, at (801)-581-2008 or j.bradley.wiggins@hsc.utah.edu. If you become a sponsor we will place a link and your company logo on our sponsor site and at the silent auction tables where the items are displayed. Federal 501c3- 876000525.
